Hyundai will be presenting the Ioniq 5 to the North American market in a little over a week. The electric crossover will shine under the spotlight during a virtual presentation scheduled for May 24, at 12:00 p.m. PT (3:00 p.m. ET), during which the Korean brand’s execs will share more insights about it. Despite the rather early ‘touch-down event’, the Ioniq 5 is still a few good months away from officially launching in the United States. Hyundai has previously confirmed that it will go on sale this fall, subsequent to its official arrival in Europe showrooms by the middle of the year.
The Ioniq 5 will be available with single-
and dual-motor set-ups, powered by a 58 or a 72.6 kWh battery. The longest
range model combines an electric motor with the bigger capacity battery,
offering between 470-480 km on the WLTP cycle, and 214 HP
and 350 Nm of torque available on tap. The range-topping dual-motor
variant offers 302 HP and 605 Nm, for a 0-100 km/h in
5.2 seconds. The base specification has 167 HP and 350 Nm, and
takes 8.5 seconds to hit 100 km/h.
It may look like a hatchback, but the
Ioniq 5 is actually longer and wider than the Tucson compact SUV, and its
wheelbase is longer than that of the Palisade. This translates into a spacious
interior that otherwise features a flat floor and boasts ‘green’ materials
throughout. The two-layer dashboard hosts the dual-screen setup that combines a
12-inch infotainment system and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster. Drivers
are aided by the augmented reality head-up display and a generous suite of
safety gear.
