Porsche has been making roof boxes for its cars for a few years now, and the latest is their most technically advanced ever. Designed by Porsche Tequipment in cooperation with Studio F.A. Porsche, it started life as a simple design sketch before being turned into a 1:1 clay model.
Subsequently, they proceeded to test it in
the wind tunnel, making adjustments, and it was then subjected to endurance
trials in the Porsche Development Center in Weissach. The automaker claims that
the roof box can withstand tough conditions on the road and track and has been
tested at speeds of up to 200 km/h.
Porsche Tequipment’s new roof box, which
is accompanied by three securing straps, protective cover with the automaker’s
logo, two pairs of gloves and Porsche Crest sticker, can be mounted on all base
carrier roof transport systems. It uses a quick-fastening system, can be opened
from both sides, has a 480-liter capacity and supports a maximum
load of 75 kg. It measures 212 cm in length, 92 cm in width and 44.5 cm in height.
The roof box will become available
starting this month, at a net price of € 1,150 (US$ 1,383) in Germany. The primed
and colored side blades will set customers back another € 200 (US$ 240) or € 350
(US$ 420) respectively.
