A British company is working on a modern take of the iconic 1959 Ferrari 250 GT SWB and plans to complete the first example in October. The car is coming to life thanks to RML Group, the same company that created the wild Nissan Juke R a few years ago, and will be dubbed the RML Short Wheelbase. Each of the 30 models that will be made will feature carbon fiber bodywork heavily influenced by the original 250 GT SWB.
Power will be provided by a 5.5-liter
naturally aspirated V12 from the Ferrari 550 Maranello that delivers 478 hp and
419 lb-ft through the rear wheels. While the car will be slightly longer,
wider, and heavier than the original 250 GT SWB and tip the scales at 1,420 kg,
it will still be able to hit 96 km/h in 4.1 seconds, Top Gear reports.
Unlike the original, the Short Wheelbase
will easily accommodate drivers up to 6ft6 tall. It will also include modern
touches such as electric seats, air conditioning, cupholders and an
infotainment system with satellite navigation and smartphone connectivity.
RML will announce additional details about
the car, includes pricing, closer to its release date.
