Guangzhou Automobile Company, known also as GAC, will be producing its all-electric Aion ENO.146 model showcased in Guangzhou as a concept a year and a half ago. Back when the prototype debuted, show guests were impressed with both its looks and its record-low aerodynamic drag ratio of just 1.046 Cx.

The display car was shaped like a sporty coupe and featured boomerang-like headlights with unusual patterns in them, a ‘gaping maw’ made out of air intakes, gull-wing doors, and a brake light strip spanning the entire width of the rear.

The interior could accommodate six passengers and had a minimalistic dashboard with touchscreens everywhere, a uniquely styled transmission tunnel, and a racing steering wheel. The final production model can be expected to ditch most of those excesses, of course. Nothing is known so far about the engine, acceleration and range. The production date will be announced later as well, likely at an auto show this fall.

GAC founded the New Energy sub-brand for purely electric vehicles in 2018, renaming it to Aion last year. The lineup currently incorporates four sedans and a crossover SUV. The marque has not been particularly successful so far, and the Aion ENO.146 could be its attempt to reconsider its future strategy.
