The Toyota GR 86 / Subaru BRZ seems to be the perfect base for visual and mechanical modifications as an affordable, rear-wheel-drive sportscar with a naturally aspirated engine and a great chassis. Japanese tuner Blitz grasped the opportunity and launched their own version of the GR 86 in the form of a concept car previewing their upcoming tuning kit for the model. The custom-designed aero parts change the appearance of the GR 86 giving it NFS Underground vibes. The redesigned front bumper looks like it is based on the Subaru BRZ, with a smaller central intake positioned lower, LED lights embedded in the upper side inlets, and a more prominent splitter.
Blitz fitted the GR 86 with a new set of black Enkei Racing Revolution RS05RR multispoke rims shod in Dunlop Direzza ZIII tires (255/35 R18). The 18-inch wheels nicely fill-up the wheel arches, which are complemented by the rear fender add-ons and the discreet side sill extension bits. At the back, the GT wing is made of carbon fiber and sits high above the tail. Below, the redesigned bumper has two decorative side intakes and a prominent diffuser. Judging from the video, the quadruple titanium exhaust pipes produce a glorious sound on idle.
Inside, there are three additional gauges on the dashboard in front of the co-driver, showing oil pressure and temperature. Blitz badging and red details can be found on the gear shifter and handbrake while the Bride racing seats offer better lateral support. Blitz did some work under the bonnet too. The carbon power air cleaner and carbon induction kit allow the 2.4-liter flat-four engine to breathe more freely, while cooling is improved by a new radiator and oil cooler. The Power and Throttle controller on the base of the center console allows the driver to increase power output from the stock 232 hp and 250 Nm of torque, although Blitz didn’t specify by how much. In any case, power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox with the help of a limited-slip differential.
There is also a lowered suspension with a stiffer setting and a more aggressive camber, as well as front/rear strut tower bars. Last but not least, the beefier brakes consist of 355 mm discs with 6-pot calipers at the front and 330 mm discs with 4-pot calipers at the back. We don’t have any performance figures for the tuned model but we are sure it will be slightly quicker and definitely sharper around the corners. As a reminder, the stock Toyota GR 86 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.3 seconds and has a top speed of 240 km/h.
The Blitz GR 86 Concept made its public debut a few weeks ago at Fuji Speedway in Japan, alongside rival models from HKS, Tom’s Racing, Third, and other tuners from Japan, as well as Toyota Gazoo Racing’s own modifications. According to Blitz’s official website, most of the aforementioned upgrades for the Toyota GR 86 are still under development, but they will be offered for sale in the near future.
