Subaru has released the first teaser image of the new 2022 WRX, confirming at the same time that the new high-performance model will debut this year. The new 2022 Subaru WRX is expected to retain its rally-inspired heritage, combining a powerful turbocharged engine with all-wheel-drive and -if rumors prove to be true- a manual transmission option.

Subaru has admitted in the past that the 2022 WRX will be inspired by previous concepts like the 2017 Viziv Performance Concept and the first teaser image does a good job at keeping us in the dark, letting only the iconic hood scoop make its presence known. Power will be provided by a model-specific turbocharged 2.4-liter FA24F flat-four engine, producing over 300 HP in WRX form and closer to 400 HP in WRX STI guise. As before, Subaru is reportedly going to offer a six-speed manual transmission but that remains to be seen at this point.

Subaru is expected to offer the new WRX without any form of electrification, which could mean that like the new BRZ, the rally-inspired machine won’t make it to regions like Europe due to emission regulations. The new 2022 Subaru WRX is expected to feature an instantly recognizable sharp front end with C-shaped LED headlights and big air intakes. Hopefully, the rest of the body will somewhat resemble the 2017 Viziv concept.

The interior of the new WRX is most likely going to be similar to that of the Impreza, featuring a large portrait-oriented infotainment system, body-hugging seats, and more, signifying that this is one of the fast Subarus. Subaru is going to reveal the 2022 WRX in the coming months, so stay tuned.
