The current generation of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado has been in production for over twelve years, and a successor coming up soon promises plenty of change.

The new Prado will inherit many of its features and options from the new Cruiser 300 model, but more importantly, it will stay a serious, body-on-frame SUV. With only 50 mm of added wheelbase, the automaker promises the interior to feel much roomier than before and the acceleration and handling much better.

The premiere is expected to occur in mid-2022, but it might end up pushed back to 2023. Toyota plans a major lineup refresh for the current year, and introducing a staple model like the Cruiser Prado at the same time might be too much for one season. A part-electric Prado might also arrive on the market later with a 2.5-liter petrol engine and an electric motor, but if such a version comes, it will probably go on sale in 2024 or 2025.
