Audi used the Shanghai Auto Show to introduce the A6 E-Tron concept and it will reportedly be followed by a production model in 2023. Citing an unidentified Audi spokesperson, Roadshow is reporting the A6 E-Tron will go into production in 2023. While that’s a couple of years away, the publication suggested the model could be introduced next year.
As a refresher, the A6 E-Tron was a striking Sportback that is “far more than just a simple design exercise” as “its body is a foretaste of Audi’s future production models.” That seems to suggest the production model will closely resemble the concept, which measured 4,960 mm long, 1,960 mm wide and 1,440 mm tall.
The production model will be based on the PPE platform, which was developed in cooperation with Porsche. The first Audi model based on the architecture will be the Q6 E-Tron and the company has already confirmed it will be introduced next year. Getting back to the A6 E-Tron, the concept was equipped with a dual motor all-wheel drive system that produced a combined output of 469 hp and 800 Nm of torque. The car also had a roughly 100 kWh battery pack, which delivered a WLTP range of more than 700 km.
However, Audi has already confirmed there will be multiple variants including “basic versions optimized for minimum consumption and maximum range.” They’ll use a rear-mounted electric motor and be able to hit 100 km/h in less than seven seconds. At the opposite end of the spectrum, there will be high-performance variants which can run from 0-100 km/h in less than four seconds.
