Audi has been spied testing the unnamed electric SUV that it is set to offer exclusively in the Chinese market. The car manufacturer previewed the vehicle in question at April’s Shanghai Auto Show with the unveiling of the Audi Concept Shanghai (pictured below). These spy shots of the vehicle being put through its paces in Germany confirm that the production model will look very similar to the show car.

The front of the prototype featured sports aggressive and angular headlights with a simple LED daytime running light. While not visible in these photos due to the camouflage, the SUV will also feature a faux front grille just like the concept. Elsewhere, the prototype features small cooling ducts on the sides of the bumper and a lower grille finished in black.

A look at the side of the electric SUV showcases a set of wheels with aero covers that will help to boost the vehicle’s range. The side profile also confirms that it is quite large and it’s understood the Concept Shanghai was 4.87 meters long, almost making it as big as the E-Tron SUV. The rear fascia appears quite restrained and we can see a roof spoiler and LED taillights. It remains a mystery what the interior of the SUV will look like as spy photographers weren’t able to get close enough and the concept from Shanghai had blacked-out windows.

Powertrain details remain a mystery but given the size of the vehicle, it’s possible that it could share some mechanical components with the VW ID.4, potentially including up to 302 hp and 310 Nm of torque in all-wheel drive, dual-motor guise.
