Koenigsegg announced the start of production of the Jesko, by unveiling a brand new preproduction prototype, two and a half years after its original debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. A total of 125 units of the Jesko and Jesko Absolut are planned to be produced in Ängelholm, Sweden. According to Koenigsegg, the first customer deliveries will commence in spring 2022.
The Tang Orange Pearl paint – reminiscent of the CCR – is combined with silver and carbon-fiber accents for the exterior. The coolness continues inside with carbon-fiber accents all over the place and contrasting orange detailing. The digital cockpit includes the SmartCluster and SmartCenter screens, while the steering wheel has integrated touch buttons. This example may be unique in the specification, but Koenigsegg has already built a few more Jesko prototypes after the original show car.
CEO and Founder Christian von Koenigsegg said “We are very excited to showcase this pre-series Jesko in conjunction with the start of production of the 125 Jesko and Jesko Absolut customer cars. As part of our gradual expansion, the Jesko’s pre-assembly begins at an extended 10,000 square meter facility”. Being an integral part of the Jesko’s development and finetuning, test driver Markus Lundh said that it feels very natural to drive with seamless shifting, adding: “For a car of its size and power, it is very agile in the way it reacts to steering and does not spin out even with sudden movements at full throttle”.
As a reminder, the Jesko is fitted with a mid-mounted twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 engine developed by Koenigsegg. It produces up to 1,578 hp and 1,500 Nm of torque when running on E85 fuel and 1,262 hp on regular gas. Power is sent to the rear axle through Koenigsegg’s revolutionary Light Speed Transmission (LST) which is said to be the fastest in the world. Features like the triplex damper front suspension, the active aerodynamics, and the sticky Michelin tires ensure great handling. Although not yet tested, the Jesko is expected to offer record-breaking performance like its predecessor.
