Manufacturers have for a long time created art cars, and now Maserati has just unveiled a Levante Trofeo that resembles one. Described as an “explosion of creativity” and a “rare display of freedom of expression,” the one-off model was created in cooperation with brand ambassador and Italian restaurateur Massimo Bottura. Made through the company’s Fuoriserie customization program, the Levante features a Blu Stradale exterior with multi-colored splashes on the hood and front fascia. They can also be found on the rear bumper and around the fenders.

The splashes of color continue in the cabin as art-like trim contrasts with black leather. It’s a refreshing break from the usual carbon fiber and wood trim, which is offered in the standard Levante Trofeo. According to Maserati, Bottura grew up in Italy’s Motor Valley and “loved racing through the Emilian countryside in vintage cars with his older brothers.” At the end of the day, the cars were covered with splashes of mud and these so-called “racing scars” helped to inspire the paint job for the Levante.

Unique design aside, the Levante Trofeo features a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 that produces 572 hp and 729 Nm of torque. It enables the crossover to accelerate from 0-96 km/h in 3.8 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 301 km/h.

As for Maserati’s Fuoriserie program, it allows customers to start with a “blank sheet of paper” and create a vehicle that is truly unique. Since there are thousands of possible combinations, Maserati has created three starting points known as Corse, Unica and Futura that help prevent people from getting overwhelmed with all of the various options.
