The MINI Electric Pacesetter will celebrate its UK debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next week. The car was unveiled in late March and serves as the safety car for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. It has been purpose-built for safety car duties and during Goodwood will be driven up the famous hill climb by none other than MINI ambassador and grandson on John Cooper, Charlie Cooper. Attendees will also be able to take an up-close look at it in the First Glance Paddock.
MINI has made the Pacesetter stand out from the regular Cooper SE thanks to the fitment of a new bodykit with extended wheel arches, side skirts, and a front splitter that’s been 3D printed from recycled carbon fiber. In addition, the MINI Electric Pacesetter features an over-the-top livery, unique orange and black wheels, a light bar, a rear wing, and a diffuser.
Powering the car is an electric powertrain with 181 hp and 280 Nm of torque that enables the hatch to hit 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. It also features coilover suspension that offers three-way adjustment for rebound, compression, height, and camber. Making the car all the more exciting is the fact that it previews future electrified performance models from John Cooper Works. In December 2020, the British car manufacturer previewed an all-electric version of the John Cooper Works GP that it is currently putting through its paces. A production model hasn’t been confirmed but it is thought to be a question of when rather than if it will hit dealerships.
