To celebrate the launch of the Flying Spur Hybrid, Bentley has created a limited run of vehicles with specially designed interior and exterior accents that are specially curated to be as sumptuously luxurious as a Bentley customer would expect and as sustainable as a hybrid buyer would hope.
Starting inside, where the majority of the changes are located, the cabin features over carpets that can be upgraded to lambswool rugs. Some panels, meanwhile, are trimmed in tweed made from 100% British wool. The material is spun especially for Bentley and it helps break up the endless acres of leather that cover the majority of vehicle interiors.
There is still leather, though it’s selected for its sustainability and long-term durability. Using “Autumn” hide, customers can choose from Beluga, Porpoise, Cricketball, Brunel, Burnt Oak leather, or modern light Linen hide. With ombre finishes and a lofted diamond pattern stitched into the seats, the interior is reminiscent of the EXP 100 GT concept car that presaged the automaker’s future.
The wood trim, meanwhile, is made of open-pore Koa veneer. This uses 90% less lacquer than a high-gloss veneer and allows the wood’s surface to be enjoyed by the owner. In all, Bentley uses just three layers of lacquer that amount to just 0.1mm of thickness. Finally, the center console uses a sleek, minimalist material called Piano Linen veneer to add depth.
Outside, the Flying Spur Hybrid Odyssean Edition features painted Brodgar accents on the 21-inch ten twin-spoke wheels and the lower brightwork. Bentley has a selection of six paint colors that they’ve chosen to match the trim, but customers are free to choose any color they like. Powered by a 2.9-liter V6 paired to an electric motor, the Flying Spur Hybrid makes a total of 536 hp and 750 Nm of torque. Churning out 95 hp more than the Bentayga Hybrid, the sedan can get up to 96 km/h in just 4.1 seconds.
Thanks to its 14.1 kWh lithium-ion batteries, the hybrid can go up to 40 km on electric power alone, which Bentley says allows its customers to mostly avoid the use of the V6 engine during their daily running about. Pricing for the new Flying Spur Hybrid Odyssean Edition trim will be announced later this year when Bentley releases full details on the updated sedan range.
