Mazda U.S.A. today announced that its first all-electric vehicle, the MX-30, will start US$ 33,470 plus a US$ 1,175 destination fee. The MX-30 with the Premium Package, meanwhile, starts at US$ 36,480, excluding destination. The Japanese company also revealed how much extra its premium paint colors will cost, with Machine Gray Metallic ringing in at US$ 495 over MSRP, Polymetal Gray Multi-Tone, and Ceramic Metallic Multi-Tone adding another US$ 895 to the bill, and Soul Red Crystal Multi-Tone topping list at US$ 995.

Along with the crossover, you get US$ 500 back in the form of a charging credit. The money can either be applied to filling up your battery at public ChargePoint locations or buying an in-home ChargePoint level 2 charger. Mazda has also introduced a new program exclusively for owners of the EV called the MX-30 Elite Access Loaner Program. The scheme allows MX-30 owners who are planning a longer trip to borrow another Mazda for up to 10 days at a time.

Powered by a 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, the MX-30 gets up to 160 km of range per charge, according to the EPA. That, reasons Mazda, should be plenty for daily commuting and driving but could hamper people on longer trips, hence the elite loaner program. Although plans had long been in the works for a rotary range extender that might have helped Mazda avoid such a scheme, the latest reports suggest that the plan has been put on hold.

The MX-30 is powered by an electric motor that sends its 143 hp and 271 Nm of torque to the front wheels. The batteries are positioned flat on the floor of the vehicle for a lower center of gravity and handling is helped by the new electric G-Vectoring Control Plus that adjusts torque to make the vehicle more consistent and stable through the corners.

Thanks to its relatively small batteries, the MX-30 can be charged to 80 percent in just 36 minutes at a level 3 fast charger. The vehicle also comes with an eight-year/100,000 miles warranty. The MX-30 will launch first in California and is expected to reach dealerships this October. Customers can reserve one by calling 833-4MY-MX30.
