First launched back in 2015, the Ford GT supercar is entering its final year of production. Thus, the company announced the 2022 Ford GT ’64 Prototype Heritage Edition which pays homage to the original prototypes from 1964. The sixth and final Heritage Edition of the Ford GT is finished in Wimbledon White with a black bonnet and triple racing stripes. There is also lots of exposed carbon fiber on the splitter, side sills, mirror stalks, engine louvers, and rear diffuser, plus the 20-inch carbon fiber wheels finished in Antimatter Blue. Behind them, the Brembo brake calipers are painted in silver with black graphics.

Inside, this special GT comes with carbon fiber seats upholstered in Lightspeed Blue Alcantara suede with silver stitching. The instrument panel is wrapped in Ebony leather, while the headliner, steering wheel, and pillars are wrapped in Ebony Alcantara. Finally, Antimatter Blue touches can be found all over the cabin. Previous Heritage Edition models include the 2017 Ford GT ’66 (27 units), 2018 Ford GT ’67 (39 units), 2019 Ford GT ’68 Gulf Livery (50 units), 2020 Ford GT ’69 Gulf Livery (50 units), and 2021 Ford GT ’66 Daytona (currently in production).

The source of inspiration for the last Heritage Edition is the 1964 Ford GT prototype that debuted at the New York International Auto Show. Out of the five Ford GT prototypes built, there is only one surviving example wearing the original livery – the GT/105.

According to Ford, the GT/101 and GT/102 were scrapped after crash testing for Le Mans and Monza. After finishing first and third at Daytona in 1965, the GT/103 (Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby) and the GT/104 (Bob Bondurant and Ritchie Ginther) have been repainted and are displayed at the Shelby Museum in Colorado.

Ford doesn’t mention any hardware changes for the 2022 Ford GT. This means that just like every other Ford GT model since the 2020 MY,  power comes from a mid-mounted 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 producing 660 hp, and breathing out through a standard Akrapovič titanium exhaust.

Production of the 2022 Ford GT is scheduled to commence in January 2022. Ford has already opened the order books. Both the 2022 Ford GT Heritage Edition and the 1964 Ford GT prototype will be displayed at Monterey Car Week at The Quail and on Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
