Photographing and filming marketing material for still-secret cars on public roads is hugely risky, as Genesis, and its all-electric GV60, is discovering to its cost. A previous leak gave us a peak at the inside of the GV60 crossover last month, and now we’ve now had our first clear look at the exterior of the compact EV thanks to the quick thinking of one car fan, who spotted it being filmed, perhaps for a TV advert.

Two images, apparently taken by Instagram user @qqqqqding, show the rear of the car, confirming the kicked-up window line we predicted in our earlier render. But they also reveal how the liftback window glass appears to wrap around the c-pillar in an arrow shape, though this is almost certainly an optical illusion.

 

Also visible are flush door handles, black plastic wheelarch cladding and Genesis’s now familiar bisected tail-lights, which bleed into the trunk lid. The pictures don’t give us any clue to how the front of the GV60 will look, but it’s likely that the distinctive Genesis grille seen on cars like the G70 and G80 will be blanked off. One thing it definitely doesn’t feature is exhaust tailpipes. The GV60 is built on the same E-GMP electric platform as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, and won’t offer any ICE powertrains. Prices won’t be revealed until later this year, but the GV60 is expected to cost more than both the Ioniq and EV6 due to Genesis’s premium position.

We can also expect a 77 kWh battery as standard and a choice of single-motor, rear-wheel drive and bi-motor all-wheel drive configurations. Based on what we know of the Ioniq 5, entry-level cars should offer 225 hp and a 300-mile driving range, while dual-motor cars will be good for 320 hp and cover slightly sless ground on a charge. But thanks to 800 V technology, you’ll be able to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes.

Last month we got a peak at the interior of the GV60 revealing the kind of technology drivers can expect to find from behind the wheel. The leaked images revealed the GV60’s camera-based door mirrors, digital dashboard and a spherical gear selector that appears to revolve when the ignition is activated.
