Kia has announced a series of updates to the 2022 Sorento. Since the model was redesigned for 2021, the changes are relatively minor this year. However, all-wheel drive versions of the mid-level Sorento S and SX now come equipped with the X-Line package. The package echoes the one found on last year’s Sorento SX-Prestige and adds a rugged front bumper and a bridge-type roof rack. The models could also benefit from an additional inch (25 mm) of ground clearance, but that’s not immediately clear.
Speaking of off-road capability, the Sorento Hybrid is now available with all-wheel drive. That’s a notable addition as the eco-friendly model features a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor and a small battery pack. This setup enables the crossover to produce a combined output of 227 hp and return up to 39 mpg city / 35 mpg highway / 37 mpg combined with front-wheel drive. At the top of the range, the Sorento SX-P gains upgraded front seats with 14-way power adjustment and a new thigh extender. The model also has newly standard rear captain’s seats with heating.
Rounding out the highlights are a new plug-in hybrid variant and an upgraded infotainment system. Speaking of the latter, Sorento S and above trims now come standard with a 10.25-inch infotainment system featuring GPS navigation. While Kia hasn’t released pricing on the plug-in hybrid variant, the 2022 Sorento starts at US$ 29,490 before a US$ 1,175 destination fee. That’s a slight increase of US$ 100 over last year’s model.
