The Porsche faithful have embraced the Taycan and the company is rewarding their acceptance with a handful of updates for 2022. The most noticeable is a more extensive color palette thanks to Paint to Sample and Paint to Sample Plus options. While the model offers 17 standard colors, Paint to Sample provides an additional 63 options including Acid Green, Riviera Blue, Rubystone Red, Moonlight Blue Metallic and Viola Metallic. If that isn’t enough variety, Paint to Sample Plus gives customers “almost complete freedom” as the company will match the color of virtually anything a customer wants such as a handbag or a private jet.
Interior changes are modest, but the latest Taycan now has deep Android Auto integration. The voice assistant has also been improved to better understand natural language requests, while the navigation system now displays information more clearly and calculates routes faster. Porsche also noted the car’s operating system has been “revamped slightly” as there are “now five menu options instead of three on the left side of the central display and the icons can be arranged individually.”
Sticking with technology, the Taycan can now be equipped with Remote Park Assist. It enables the vehicle to park itself, even without a driver behind the wheel. As Porsche explained, the system automatically detects parking spaces and measures them using the vehicle’s ultrasonic sensors and cameras. If the system determines there is enough room, the driver can exit and then press a button on the Porsche Connect app to tell the Taycan to park itself.
Last but not least, the 2022 Taycan is more efficient as drivers will see improved real-world ranges despite the fact that the model will not be homologated separately. Porsche didn’t say how much additional range we can expect, but noted the model benefits from “extensive technological developments” including the almost complete decoupling of the front electric motor, on all-wheel drive variants, when in Normal and Range modes. The model also ‘shuts off’ the rear electric motor when coasting or at a standstill, and restarts it within milliseconds when the driver needs power.
Furthermore, the thermal management and charging functions have been improved as the Turbo Charging Planner now heats the battery to a slightly higher temperature to allow for earlier fast charging and at a higher charge level. The company also says “waste heat from the electrical components is used to an even greater extent for battery temperature regulation.” The 2022 Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo will go into production in September and we’ll likely hear more closer to launch.
