The 2022 Subaru WRX was originally slated to be unveiled at the New York Auto Show on August 19th, but the coronavirus pandemic threw a wrench in those plans. With the New York Auto Show officially cancelled, the automaker has postponed the introduction of the high-performance model. While the company has been tight-lipped on when the WRX will now be introduced, it’s “coming soon” as Subaru has released a new teaser video. The latest clip is only 15 seconds long, but it shows the car will have plastic body cladding and black wheels.

More importantly, the teaser gives us our first glimpse of the interior which features a manual transmission as well as a tachometer with a redline shortly above 6,000 rpm. We can also see red contrast stitching, a proper handbrake and metallic trim.

The latest teaser isn’t very revealing, but previous videos have shown the WRX will have a prominent grille, sweptback headlights and a hood-mounted scoop. They’ll be joined by black trim, a dual exhaust system and a relatively small rear spoiler.

Subaru has been tight-lipped about specifications, but the model is expected to use a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. While it normally produces 260 hp and 376 Nm of torque, there’s little doubt it will be upgraded for use in the WRX. Rumors have suggested it could develop around 300 hp, which would be a significant improvement over the outgoing model’s 268 hp.
