Chevrolet has given us the first indications of what its upcoming Silverado EV’s wheels will look like, and boy will they be big. At 24-inches, the new truck may make donks look more reasonable. The company also revealed in a video that, like the Hummer EV, the Silverado EV will get four-wheel steering. The technology can make a big truck’s turning circle tighter by turning the rear wheels in the opposite direction of the fronts. It can also make the vehicle more stable on the highway by turning all four wheels in the same direction when you’re, say, changing lanes. The company also claims it gives a vehicle “great trailering dynamics.”
Whether or not the Chevy pickup will get the same Crab Mode as the Hummer remains to be seen, but the 24-inch wheels would suggest that this is more focused on the street than the Hummer, whose wheels are a much more reasonable 18-inches across. Surrounded by 35-inches of rubber, though, that truck is perfect for off-roading.
Chevy’s electric truck will be based on the same Ultium platform as the Hummer, though, and a previous teaser revealed that it would get more than 644 km of range. Power figures have not been revealed, but we know that the Hummer EV is capable of up to 1,000 hp.
Chevrolet hasn’t given a firm date for the Silverado EV’s arrival, but the company has said that it will be before 2025, with a launch possible sometime between late 2023 and early 2024. It will also be joined by a GMC Sierra EV, suggesting that it won’t just be a Hummer with a Chevy badge.
