Ford is gearing up to give the Focus a mid-cycle refresh and our intrepid spy photographers have caught it during hot weather testing in southern Europe. Expected to feature slimmer lighting elements and mild improvements to the front and rear fascia, it isn’t going to be a massive departure from the current model. Previous spy pics have shown that the front DRLs will differ from the current ones, with big, wide lighting elements at the bottom of the headlight unit.
Although the grille is still
largely blocked by a black plastic cover, it would seem that Ford is planning
to rework the intakes a bit to help differentiate the facelifted model from the
one it replaces. A heavily camouflaged hood also suggests that there could be
tweaks there. At the back, meanwhile, the changes look to be largely contained
to the slimmer taillights and a slightly altered bumper.
Although we have no photos of
the interior, we would anticipate mild improvements there, too. Ford is likely
to give the new Focus its latest infotainment software and the screen could
grow in size. Under the hood, rumors suggest that a plug-in hybrid might join
the lineup, helping to move forward on the company’s promise to go all-electric
by 2030.
Ford has kept mum about
release dates for the updated Focus, so it’s hard to know when they plan to
reveal it to the world. Given that the fourth generation was launched in 2018,
we wouldn’t expect it to be unveiled before late 2021 or sometime in 2022.
