BMW is working on a facelift for the current 3-Series and as these recent spy shots reveal, Alpina is also working on a refreshed version of its B3. Spied during tests at the Nurburgring, the new Alpina B3 will sport many of the same updated elements of the standard 3-Series. This will include refreshed headlights, a newly-designed front bumper, and tweaked front kidney grilles. Unfortunately, many of these key components are covered by camouflage on this prototype but the front end does appear slightly sharper and more aggressive.
BMW is also updating the rear fascia of the 3-Series, with it expected to receive new taillights and a distinctive bumper. The new Alpina B3 will sport similar updates, although Alpina is expected to use bumpers that it has designed in-house.The most obvious giveaway that the prototype pictured is an Alpina, rather than a standard BMW, are the tightly-spoked wheels and the familiar quad-tailpipes.
The facelifted 3-Series is also set to receive some significant interior upgrades. In fact, previous spy shots have revealed that its cabin will take inspiration from the all-electric i4 and feature a large curved display housing both the infotainment screen and the digital instrument cluster. It will be a significant upgrade for the car and is a feature that will likely be used on other BMW models moving forward, including the 5-Series and 7-Series.
Powering the outgoing Alpina B3 is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged straight-six with 462 hp and 700 Nm of torque. No upgrades are expected for this facelift but Alpina could surprise us with some small horsepower and torque improvements. The facelifted Alpina B3 should be unveiled in the first half of 2022.
