Maserati Grecale, one of the most anticipated premium SUV models, will premiere on November 16 in Milan, as confirmed today by the Italian company. This will be the second production SUV to bear the trident emblem, following the larger Levante that’s been on sale since 2016. We already knew that the new Maserati Grecale would premiere in November but now we have a specific date. This means we could be seeing more teasers in the coming weeks. Camouflaged prototypes of the Italian SUV have been spotted several times and now it seems that the development period is reaching close to completion.
The name Grecale originates from a Mediterranean wind. This is not the first time Maserati names a model after a wind, as they have done it several times in the past with the Mistral, Ghibli, Bora, Merak, Khamsin, and Levante. The company suggests that Grecale “will play a key role for the brand” and focuses on its dynamic driving characteristics. Maserati’s latest SUV will be sharing its platform and other components with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Unlike the Stelvio, the Grecale will be available in petrol, hybrid, and fully electric variants. It has been confirmed that the range will include the Grecale Trofeo performance flagship, offered alongside the GT, and Modena guises.
We still don’t have any information on the engines but we suspect that the SUV will be offered with four-cylinder and six-cylinder motors with mild-hybrid technology since Maserati is phasing out the Ferrari-sourced V8. As for the fully electric variant, this is expected to be quite powerful and feature a distinctive sound like all future Maserati EVs.
The main rivals of the Maserati Grecale in the market will be the Porsche Macan and the Jaguar E-Pace. The Italians claim that their SUV will combine a premium yet practical cabin with exciting looks and a sporty character. Production of the Grecale is expected to commence at the Cassino factory sometime in the following months.
