Chevrolet introduced the 2022 Silverado 1500 last month and now attention is turning to the facelifted GMC Sierra 1500. Set to debut on October 21st at 8 p.m. EST, the updated truck will feature a new front fascia with a revised grille and restyled headlights. The model also sports new daytime running lights that have less of a C-shape.
Further below, we can see a more curvaceous bumper with fog lights that are no longer housed in bulky intakes. The truck also appears to have a new chrome accent that wraps around the entire front end. Additional details are hard to make out, but GMC said the 2022 Sierra Denali Ultimate will be the “most advanced and luxurious pickup in its class.”
While the professional grade brand is keeping tight-lipped, the 2022 Silverado 1500 offers a number of clues. In particular, we can expect a higher quality interior with an improved design and modern technology. Speaking of the latter, there should be a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.4-inch infotainment system with built-in Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play. Google Assistant is especially notable as it enables drivers to use their voice to call or text friends, listen to music or adjust the climate control system.
Sticking with the tech theme, the 2022 Sierra 1500 will be available with the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system that allows for hands-free operation on more than 320,000 km of compatible roadway in the United States and Canada. The system can also be used when towing, which is a huge plus for long-distance trips.
Under the hood, we can expect a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that has been upgraded to produce 310 hp and 569 Nm of torque. It should be joined by a 5.3-liter V8 with 355 hp and 519 Nm of torque as well as a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 hp and 623 Nm of torque. The 4.3-liter V6 will presumably be dropped, while models equipped with the 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel should have an increased towing capacity. In the case of the Silverado, the capacity was increased to 6,033 kg thanks to a revised rear differential, cooling enhancements, and chassis changes that allowed for the inclusion of a max tow package.
