Dongfeng has launched pre-orders for a new compact crossover SUV, the Fengguang 580. The car is rather large for its class, but manages to cost between US$ 15,000 and US$ 20,000.
The length amounts to 4,720 mm,
the width to 1,865 mm, the height to 1,710 mm and the
wheelbase to 2,785 mm. The interior offers three rows of seats with
the second row represented by two individual high-comfort seats – quite an
uncommon feature in this price segment. Specifically, the seats are 8-way
adjustable, heated and ventilated with headrests that can transform into cozy
pillows for those wishing to sleep. The third row also has only two seats.
The exterior and the interior are both
executed in a way that feels modern and not overdone. The front panel contains
a 12.3-inch touchscreen display and a 7-inch digital dashboard, while hardware
controls are kept down to a minimum. The gear lever is a joystick.
A 1.5-liter turbocharged engine under the
hood drives a six-speed automatic transmission with 184 PS and 300 Nm of torque. Drive type is unknown, but Dongfeng points
out that the car burns through 7 liters of gasoline per 100 km (33.6 MPG) in
mixed cycle.
