Another day, another fully electric hypercar by a newly established automaker. The Othello from Chinese company Farnova was launched in prototype form, boasting a claimed 1,810 hp. Farnova Automotive, founded in 2019, aims to build 200 units of the Othello starting from next year, with a price tag of 1.86 million yuan (US$ 287,578). The Othello is based on the chassis of the Qiantu K50 sportscar, after an agreement between Farnova Automotive and Qiantu Motors who was struggling to keep afloat. Despite sharing the same underpinnings, the two models are quite different, both in terms of styling and performance.

The Othello is fitted with two electric motors producing a combined 1,810 hp and a massive 12,000 Nm. This kind of power allows it to sprint to 100 km/h in 1.8 seconds, 300 km/h in 8.5 seconds, and reach a top speed of 420 km/h. The battery, sourced from Swedish company Northvolt, has a capacity of 75 kWh offering a rather optimistic advertised range of 600 km.

The full-scale prototype is characterized by sharp creases on the bodywork, gullwing doors, flying buttresses, and a retractable roof-mounted aerobrake. According to Car News China, the hypercar is measuring 4,670 mm long, 2,080 mm wide, and 1,145 mm tall, with a curb weight of 1,350 kg.

Starting in 2022, Othello will be produced in a new factory in Changde in a limited number of 200 units. Besides the hypercar, Farnova has big plans for its automotive business. They have shown images of an electric bus allegedly designed by an unnamed former chief designer at Lamborghini and, starting in 2023, will roll out electric SUVs, crossovers and sedans.
