According to Autocar quoting the CEO of Nissan Europe, the company will design an all-electric SUV to replace the Leaf model by 2025. The new EV will be based on the same architecture (CMF-EV) as the Nissan Ariya and Renault Megane E-Tech. It will be produced in Sunderland, UK, and should become the marque’s fifth EV by that date. Before the SUV hits the market, the company will have produced electric variants of the X-Trail, Qashqai, and Juke.

The Micra subcompact will also retire, but the company has no replacement ideas at the time. Furthermore, Nissan Europe generally does not intend to invest any more in ICE car development because of the prohibitively strict Euro-7 standard. The executives believe that the expenses associated with designing such engines would cut profitability in half.
