Due to a robust regulatory and incentive framework from both national and regional governments, there has been a boom in electric vehicles in India. Many electric vehicle manufacturers are pitching tents in India due to its huge potential customer base in the region of hundreds of millions. Darwin Group has now joined the fray with the launch of three electric scooters in India. They are the Darwin D5, D7, and D14 e-scooters with a driving range between 70km and 120km on a single charge.
Darwin has thus joined some of the big
hitters in the Indian e-bike market like Ola and TVS, among others. The
e-scooters are priced at Rs. 68,000 (US$ 913) for the D5, Rs. 73,000 (US$ 980) for
the D7, and Rs. 77,000 (US$ 1,033) for the D14. The great-looking Darwin
e-scooters were designed for the younger population with their impressive and
sharp styling. The design is bound to draw the younger segment of the
population to the three e-scooters and added to the fanfare, the bikes were
unveiled by World Amateur Boxing Champion MC Mary Kom.
Some of the features of the new Darwin
e-scooters for India include keyless entry, regenerative braking, USB mobile
charging port, hazard switch, and an appealing overall look. Darwin says the
design philosophy behind its three new e-scooters in India is a goal to produce
class-leading products that promote the green revolution. It says the Indian
version of its e-scooters is at par with Japanese standards in addition to
obtaining international quality certification with Quality Austria Central
Asia.
Darwin Group will continue to scale up its
investments in India ranging from research and development to, production of
green vehicles and strategic collaborations. The Darwin D5, D7, and D14 will
compete with some very successful electric two-wheelers in India for a share of
the huge market.
