Ford has turned its futuristic Fordzilla P1 Concept into a racing sim rig. The development team had to add a whole interior to the design study, there was none originally.
Gamers can now get behind the steering
yoke of the prototype and use the yoke and the pedals to drive a car in virtual
reality goggles. The exterior of the sim rig reacts to the in-game condition
appropriately: for example, the taillights light up when the player brakes.
When the station remains idle for a while, it starts shining its lights slowly,
imitating the breath pattern of a sleeping person.
Gamers have three 4K cameras at their
disposal to stream the entire process online. The cameras are fixed to focus on
the player’s face, the steering wheel and the pedals. The video feed can be
output to an online streaming service or a 10mx4m large display.
Ford did not comment how and where the rig
will be used in the future. The original Fordzilla P1 debuted a year ago and received a video game counterpart in August 2020. Designers from
five different countries joined efforts remotely to design it after polling
over 250,000 players worldwide about the key features they would like to see in
the concept.
