The facelifted Tesla Model S wasn’t the only interesting vehicle unveiled in Taiwan today as the automaker also showcased an updated Model X Plaid. While the sedan adopts updated lighting units, the Model X largely carries over. However, that’s not the case in the interior as this particular variant features a seven-seat configuration.
This doesn’t sound too exciting, but
Teslarati noted it’s not available in the United States where the performance
crossover is limited to just six seats. A quick look at Tesla’s configurator in
a number of markets suggests the six-seater configuration is a global
phenomenon, so it appears the updated model will be a bit more practical.
Reports also suggest the Model X may be
equipped with an updated infotainment system for improved performance and
better loading times. Of course, that’s not certain at this point. Furthermore,
the video gives us a good look at the crossover’s new CCS2 charging port. It
should make finding a compatible charger easier in certain markets without the
need to use adapters.
While these aren’t the drastic changes
that some people were hoping for, the Model X Plaid is still in a league of its
own when it comes to performance. As a refresher, the current model has a
tri-motor powertrain that produces 1,020 hp. This enables
the vehicle to be the “quickest accelerating SUV in production today” with a 0-96 km/h time of 2.5 seconds. The crossover can also run the
quarter mile in 9.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 262 km/h, while
it’s EPA-estimated range is an impressive 501 km.
