Lexus announced a new project for Tokyo Auto Salon 2022 in collaboration with Japanese tuner Jaos. The Lexus LX 600 “Offroad” Jaos is a tuned version of the large SUV featuring aftermarket parts made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic for a rugged look as well as other modifications that improve its off-road credentials. The Lexus LX – which is the luxurious sibling of the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 – was already a decent performer off the beaten track, but Jaos took it a step further without tweaking the underpinnings.
Starting with the custom bodykit, it
includes front and rear bumper skid plates and fender add-ons made of
lightweight infusion-molded CFRP. These are complemented by mudguards, side
steps, door handle protectors, and a muffler cutter for the exhaust. We can
also see a set of stickers on the front door and fitting black trim for the
grille, intakes, and window surround, combined with privacy glass.
Finally, the 20-inch 10-spoke Enkei forged
rims called Jaos Tribe Cross are finished in Titanium Gold for a rally-inspired
look. More importantly, the new wheels are shod in beefier 285/55R20 Toyo Open
Country A/T Tires for a better grip.
Lexus and Jaos didn’t change anything
under the hood, which means that the LX is fitted with the stock
twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 producing 409 hp and 649 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 10-speed
automatic gearbox. The SUV retains the adaptive variable suspension, the
Multi-Terrain Select system, and other features that help it adapt to all types
of terrain.
The company didn’t announce pricing for
the Jaos kit but pledged to offer “a diverse range of products to meet the
diversifying needs and lifestyles of its customers” which hints at the
availability of more aftermarket parts in the future. Mind you, Lexus is
already offering an off-road trim of the LX 600 in the Japanese market which
comes with 18-inch wheels, high-profile tires, three locking differentials, plus
black and dark gray accents.
