Ferrari has published the first official teaser of the upcoming Purosangue, its first SUV ever, while confirming its premiere for later this year. The shadowy teaser gives us a good idea of the design of the front end and confirms the genuineness of the leaked photos from a few weeks ago. The Purosangue is officially the tallest model in the Ferrari range, with increased ground clearance, massive intakes on the front bumper, and a rather grille-less look with a think strip connecting the LED headlights. The latter are inspired by the SF90 supercar, blending with the nose and following the lines of the bulged front fenders.
The earlier leaked photos revealed even
more of the vehicle’s design. The profile comes with black cladding on the
wheelarches and side sills, five-spoke rims, a sculpted character line, and an
aerodynamic roofline. The rear end is aggressively styled with 296 GTB inspired
taillights featuring integrated vents, and quad exhaust pipes on the diffuser /
skid plate area. Ferrari hasn’t given us any hint on the powertrain
specifications of the Purosangue, but rumors circulating the web and the
already available engine options in Ferrari’s range give us rough idea of what
to expect.
The most plausible solution would be the
hybrid powertrain from the 296 GTB, comprising a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 and
electric motor for a combined output of 819 hp. Another
option would be the hybrid twin-turbo V8 from the SF90 Stradale flagship
producing 1,000 hp although this is likely too much for an
SUV. Both hybrid options could be downplayed for the Purosangue with or without
electrical assistance, while all-wheel-drive capability to some extent should
be a given. Finally, there is talk about a flagship variant with a naturally
aspirated 6.5-liter V12 from the 812 Superfast / Competizione that could go up
to 819 hp.
Since Ferrari has started the teasing
campaign, we should learn more about the Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin
DBX707 rival as we move closer to its debut. Production of the Purosangue will
commence in 2022, closely following the online debut, with first deliveries
expected in 2023.
