Spy photographers have snapped the first pictures of the upcoming 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV, a battery powered alternative to the mid-size SUV of the same name. Teased earlier this year, the Blazer EV follows in the footsteps of the standard model but adopts a fully enclosed grille that is flanked by triangular intakes and temporary lighting units.
Moving further back, we can see a rakish
windscreen that flows into a sloping roof with a panoramic glass sunroof. The
crossover also features an evolutionary greenhouse, muscular rear haunches, and
streamlined bodywork. While the camouflage does a good job of hiding the
design, we can tell this is the Blazer EV as the shape of the distinctive
charging port door is the same as previous teasers.
Other notable highlights include an
upright liftgate with a short window and a rear spoiler. They’re joined by a
relatively plain rear bumper and aerodynamically-optimized 21-inch wheels with
a two-tone finish. Chevrolet has been tight-lipped about specifics, but the
company has already confirmed the Blazer EV will be introduced later this year
and launched in the spring of 2023. More importantly, the bowtie brand has also
confirmed plans for a high-performance SS variant.
Specifications remain a mystery, but the
model is slated to ride on the Ultium platform just like the Cadillac Lyric.
The latter model features a 100 kWh battery pack that powers a rear-mounted
electric motor, which develops 340 hp and 440 Nm of torque. This is slated to give the crossover a range in excess of 483 km and it’s possible the Blazer EV may feature a similar setup.
