Beijing, a Chinese automaker and part of BAIC Group, has debuted on camouflaged official shots and some live images from the city streets. At 5,020 mm long, 1,955 mm wide and 1,925 mm tall with 2,800 mm of wheelbase, the newcomer slots comfortably into the “full-size SUV” segment of the market. Its model designation – BJ60 – likely means it sits above its Jeep Wrangler-faced BJ40 cousin, but below the G-Class-cosplaying BJ80 flagship.
Technical bits remain to be revealed. All
we know at the moment is that the vehicle will have three differential locks:
front, rear and inter-axle. There will also be a hybrid spec capable of
sprinting 0-100 km/h in six seconds and covering around 1,000 km on a charge.
Based on earlier teasers, the main
distinguishing feature of the BJ60 is its radiator grille with integrated
headlights and DRLs. Two more light sections can be found in the front bumper.
Interior also stays in the dark right now.
Like any SUV on this particular market, the BJ60 has a spare wheel on the
tailgate, robust-looking running boards and other “rugged” features. As a
typical Chinese car, it sports an abundance of chrome details on the moldings,
side mirror bezels, door handles and rear bumper.
