Fiat was always keen on presenting special editions of the 500 so the fully electric version couldn’t be missing from the game. The latest iteration of the Cinquecento is the 500 La Prima by Bocelli, which is the new top-of-the-range trim focused on offering a premium sound experience with the help of tenor Andrea Bocelli and his son Matteo. As hinted at by the name, the special edition is based on the 500 La Prima which comes packed with features as the most expensive trim of the range. Since its debut in 2020, it has also been the most popular trim, accounting for one-third of the new 500 sales.
In order to create the best sound for the
urban EV, Fiat teamed up with the Bocellis and JBL who supplied the hardware.
The 320 Watt audio system incorporates JBL’s “Virtual Venues” technology and is
specially tuned for the small cabin of the 500. Fiat hasn’t specified how many
speakers or subwoofers are included in the bespoke sound system, but thankfully
the already tiny 185-lt cargo space remains unaffected.
Besides the fancy sound system, the 500 La
Prima By Bocelli also comes equipped with the “Sanitizing Glove Box” that
debuted in the pandemic-fighting RED trim a few months ago. Using this, owners
will be able to sanitize their personal items on demand thanks to a UV-C lamp
in the glove compartment which works in three-minute cycles. Other standard
features include the 10.25-inch touchscreen for the Uconnect infotainment, the
7-inch digital instrument cluster, and Level 2 ADAS.
The special edition is available in
hatchback, cabrio, and 3+1 bodystyles. All of them come standard with full-LED
headlights and 17-inch alloy wheels, while inside we find a woven dashboard and
ice beige seats. Customers can choose between six body colors including Onyx
Black, Rose Gold, Ice White, Mineral Grey, Ocean Green, and Celestial Blue,
although the black is probably the best choice for visiting the opera.
The EV comes with the larger 42 kWh
battery offering an advertised WLTP range of 321 km, and the most
potent electric motor producing 117 hp and 220 Nm of torque. The Italian automaker didn’t specify pricing for the 500 La Prima By
Bocelli but we expect it to be slightly higher than the range-topping La Prima.
The Fiat 500 is dubbed Stellantis’ best-selling EV and the most popular urban
EV in Europe.
