The battery-powered Renault Kwid has reached Brazil. The affordable compact EV is technically identical to the Euro-spec Dacia Spring except for a considerably more powerful electric motor. Specifically, while the EU version has 45 PS, the Brazilian one boasts 65 PS. This enables it to sprint 0-50 km/h in 4.1 seconds instead of 5.8 and max out at 130 km/h, a touch above the standard 125 km/h.

The battery stays the same at 26.8 kWh. The car is rated for 298 km of urban driving and 265 km of mixed-cycle driving according to the SAE standard. A 7kW AC charger replenishes the entire charge within three hours, but you can plug it into a wall socket and get a full battery in nine hours.

Customers in Brazil get the Renault Kwid E-Tech Electric in only one trim specification, which includes six airbags, ESP, parking sensors, infotainment, and a reversing camera.

Renault ultimately aims to make the Kwid available in a number of countries around the world. The first one in the list was China, where the EV came under the name ‘Renault City K-ZE’ in 2019. The production had only lasted for a year before the manufacturer pulled out of the market. The eGT New Energy Automotive JSC factory remained, however, and continues making licensed copies of the Kwid to this day.

In Europe, the latest Dacia Spring is essentially the same car with a different design. The Brazil spec covered in this news article is made in China.
