The Genesis Collection, MSO Lab’s first series of NFTs has been revealed today, and it will be made up of 2,012 tokens celebrating the McLaren P1. The automaker terms it an “ultra-limited, invitation-only mint” that was inspired by both the P1 and the even racier P1 GTR. The number of tokens being minted, meanwhile, is a nod to the year that the hypercar was first revealed to the world, at the Paris Motor Show.
The first 14 tokens awarded by McLaren
will be given to “honorary members” of the MSO Lab, who the automaker describes
as luminaries from the worlds of art, fashion, and, of course, crypto. The
remaining NFTs will be available to buy from its marketplace, nft.mclaren.com.
The Genesis Collection drop will be
comprised of five tiers with eight unique traits which are:
- LAB Studio: P1, Treatment: level one paint and pinstripe. Limited to only 1,000
- LAB Studio+: P1, Treatment: level two paint, more detailed pinstriping and fades. Limited to only 893
- LAB Works: P1 GTR, Treatment: MSO LAB livery in color combinations. Limited to only 100
- LAB Honorary of P1 or P1 GTR not available for purchase and to be gifted to select members of the McLaren community
- LAB Icons, P1 & P1 GTR, bespoke. Limited to only five, each with a unique McLaren design:
- A P1 GTR in McLaren’s iconic papaya color with Bruce McLaren’s racing number ‘four’
- The iconic P1 that carries the famous ‘OOV’ license plate
- The P1 ‘sister’ press car carrying the ‘OOU’ license plate
- A P1 in full black visual carbon fiber
- A post-race P1 GTR, bearing all the signs of having recently come off the track
The collection will drop at 9:00 am ET on
May 11, but only for McLaren owners and other specially-invited individuals.
Two days later, at 9:00 am ET on May 13, the collection will be opened to a
“select group of invited wider NFT communities.” Along with their token, buyers
will be given a 1:1 render of the front three-quarter view of the P1 or P1 GTR,
accompanied by a 1:1 animation, featuring their unique treatment and
credentials (non-transferrable on resale). They will further receive a 9:16
render of the rear of the car, which is also non-transferable, and membership
to MSO Labs.
The mint will be fully randomized and each
NFT is priced at 0.5ETH, which today amounts to a value of about US$ 1,461, per
Coindesk. McLaren announced MSO Labs in late April and it is intended as a
space for McLaren to interact with the world of Web3. The British carmaker will
use MSO Labs to release NFTs, offer early intel and previously hidden digital
sketches, as well as virtual tours of the McLaren Technology Center.
