Toyota has published a teaser video of the upcoming Hyryder SUV that will debut in India on July 1st. The model will be fitted with a hybrid powertrain and feature a number of unique styling cues distinguishing it from the Toyota Urban Cruiser which is a sibling to the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. The teaser is showing the lighting signature of the Hyryder. The slim LED headlights are merging with the black grille with chrome inserts, while the pronounced taillights have LED graphics reminiscent of the C-HR.
The Hyryder is expected to measure more
than 4 meters long, offering a spacious cabin. It will share its
underpinnings and most of its bodypanels with a Suzuki-badged sibling, and
compete with similarly-sized SUVs including the Hyundai Creta and the Skoda
Kushaq.
The “Hybrid” badge on the profile hints at
the electrified nature of the SUV that is also highlighted in its name.
According to Autocar India, the Hyryder will be offered in two variants. The
entry-level model will be fitted with a Suzuki-sourced mild-hybrid powertrain,
most likely the latest 1.5-litre unit that is already used in other models of
the Suzuki lineup. The higher-spec model will come with Toyota’s own full
hybrid system bringing lower fuel consumption and EV driving capability.
The Toyota Hyryder will be produced in
Karnakata, alongside its Maruti Suzuki sibling. Sales in India are expected to
start in July. We don’t know if the automaker plans on exporting the SUV, but
it sounds like a fitting proposal for other markets.
