The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS is more aggressive than any of its predecessors. It owes much of that heritage to the iconic 1973 911 RS 2.7. Now, customers in the USA will have the chance to specify their new GT3 RS in the limited production ‘Tribute to Carrera RS Package’. Kjell Gruner, President, and CEO of Porsche Cars North America Inc. (PCNA) explained the announcement by saying “America is the second home of the 911 and a special tribute exclusive to the U.S. is the perfect way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 911 Carrera RS 2.7. So many of us idolized the original 1972 car. We want to create a special experience that combines exclusive options on the new GT3 RS with a one-of-a-kind list of accompanying items.”

Those items haven’t yet been fully disclosed but we get a sense of the plan with the car now on display at The Quail in Monterey, California. Just as the original RS 2.7 was offered in white and green, the Tribute to Carrera RS car is finished in Pure White and Python Green. The green is especially apparent throughout the build as it’s used for the stitching, the paint color of the roll cage, the aluminum wheels, and more. Buyers will find small RS logos on each spoiler end plate and the customization doesn’t stop there. Each headlight has its own white pinstripe, a feature that’s not available on the normal list of factory-available options.

These details hark back to the original in a clear and eye-catching manner but more is yet to be revealed in the future. “This is a live project in its early stages, and is being created by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts as a joint effort between our colleagues in Zuffenhausen, Flacht and our team in America. The ideas and concepts are really exciting and we’re having a lot of fun developing it – all of us are looking forward to sharing more details with you soon,” said Gruner.

The Tribute package doesn’t appear to change the performance specs of the stock model that comes with a 4.0-liter flat-six producing 518 hp paired to a standard dual-clutch PDK gearbox for a 0-96 km/h time of 3.2 seconds.

For now, the car in all of its beauty is on display throughout the weekend. We’ll have to wait to find out exactly how many will be available and what sort of price tag each one will carry, but it won’t be cheap adding to the US$ 225,250 starting price of the standard GT3 RS.
