The Mengshi M-Terrain EV has been uncovered in production guise in China, revealing an SUV that makes the GMC Hummer EV seems a little tame. Built for Dongfeng’s Mengshi brand, the M-Terrain is just about as crazy as SUVs go, regardless of whether they have electric powertrains or not. It has a very similar design to the concept unveiled earlier this year but does benefit from some alterations to make it more suitable for use on the road.
The M-Terrain’s front end is dominated by
the menacing front bumper that doesn’t just look the part but will also help it
conquer steep inclines and climb over obstacles with ease. Mengshi’s designers
have also crafted a black grille for the SUV while also fitting distinctive
headlights that incorporate sharp DRLs. A skid plate and bronze-colored accents
around the fog lights and grille complete the look.
Continuing the rugged and purposeful looks
are doors with huge hinges, side steps, sharp lines and creases similar to the
current Hyundai Tucson, and silver and black wheels very similar to those of the
GMC Hummer EV – though, it’s silhouette overall reminds of the FJ Cruiser. Cast
your eyes to the rear and you will find a spare wheel cover, an intriguing set
of LED taillights, and a sharp bumper.
Given that the SUV has yet to be unveiled
in full, powertrain details have not been confirmed. However, it is expected to
be offered in all-electric and range-extender guises, the first of which will
pair a 140 kWh battery pack with four electric motors to deliver a total of
1,000 hp. Chinese reports suggest this model will be able to travel up to 500
km on a charge. The range-extender version is tipped to launch with
a 65.88 kWh battery pack with a small engine and 800 km of range.
