AutoHome.cn has posted the first official photos of the next-generation Ford Edge for China. The car gets a longer wheelbase reflected in its model suffix ‘L’ and is larger than the JAC Toyota Highlander. The sales are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2023.
Compared to the previous Edge generation,
the new Edge L looks drastically different and in line with Ford’s latest
design philosophy for China. New elements include an aggressive front bumper,
novel headlights with a light bar running next to the hood rim, and heavily
sculpted sides. The roofline is rather dynamic, the c-pillar is new and the
rear spoiler consists of two parts.
Coming in at five meters long, the car has
2,950 mm between the axles – 100 mm more than the old generation had and even more than the China-spec Toyota Highlander has. The body is 35
mm longer than the Highlander’s, too.
According to earlier patent filings, the
base spec will ship with an EcoBoost 2.0 engine rated at 252 PS in tandem with an eight-speed automatic transmission. A higher spec will
combine the same engine with an electric motor for a total of 275 PS.
