Mercedes introduced the facelifted CLA earlier today and now the company has released details for the United States. It features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 416 hp and 500 Nm of torque. That makes it the most powerful four-cylinder production model offered for sale on this side of the pond. The engine is connected to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, which sends power to a standard all-wheel drive system.
This setup should enable the car to
accelerate from 0-96 km/h in 4.0 seconds, before hitting a top speed
of 269 km/h. That’s a significant improvement over the outgoing CLA
45, which had 382 hp and 479 Nm of torque. The company quoted the old model as having as 0-96 km/h time of 4.0 seconds, so it’s possible they’re being
conservative with the time for the 45 S.
Regardless, the CLA 45 S will arrive at
U.S. dealerships later this year and come equipped with 19-inch wheels
featuring a matte black and high-gloss machined finish. The company also briefly mentioned a new AMG
Aerodynamics Package Plus, which includes a fixed rear spoiler that improves
handling at high speeds and “ensures the expressive look of an uncompromising
racer.”
Interior changes are limited, but the
model features sports seats and a new AMG Performance steering wheel with
integrated AMG Drive Unit buttons. They’re joined by 10.25-inch displays, the latest generation MBUX
infotainment system, and a center console which eschews a touchpad controller.
As for the rest of the U.S. lineup, the
Shooting Brake sadly remains forbidden fruit.
That’s not surprising and neither is the fact that the entry-level CLA
250 has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with mild-hybrid technology and an output of
221 hp. Customers can
also snag a CLA 35, which features all-wheel drive as well as 302 hp.
