The Toyota Yaris is a global nameplate but includes different model variants depending on the market. One of them is the XP150 series which just got an important update in Thailand, bringing sharper looks together with more safety and connectivity features. Let’s start by clarifying that the pictured Toyota Yaris is unrelated to the TNGA-based model (XP210) sold in Europe and Japan, and to the DNGA-based Yaris Ativ / Vios sedan (AC100) which is also available in Thailand. Instead, the Thai-spec Yaris hatchback (X150) is based on the old budget-friendly EFC platform and was originally introduced back in 2013 with consecutive facelifts in 2017, 2020, and 2023.

The exterior of the Yaris has been updated with Toyota’s “Hammerhead Design” language, although the effect is not as evident as in other models. The L-shaped headlights are slimmer and hug the protruding nose with a previous-gen Prius flair. Below, the bumper is dominated by a massive black trim piece that incorporates the grille and the decorative intakes. Things are less polarizing on the profile which is largely carried over from the outgoing model. The tail is also instantly recognizable as changes are limited to the decorative inlets and the new diffuser.

 

Toyota designers went crazy with the available trims and accessories of the Yaris, offering slight variations in the design of the bodykit. For example, the Lusso package adds extra fins on the front bumper, a rear spoiler extension, and a central tailpipe on the diffuser among other accessories. Then there is the Yaris Presto takes taking things even further with hot hatch looks thanks to the splitter, side skirts, rear wing, and dual tailpipes on the large diffuser. With all those parts, it is hard to imagine what would be in store if there was a GR Sport, let alone a GR variant of the XP150.

Inside, there is a larger 9-inch touchscreen for the infotainment, at least for the higher-spec trims since we saw three different screen variations in the press material. Depending on the trim, the Yaris also got better quality materials for the seat upholstery (fabric/leather) and dual USB-C ports for the rear passengers. Finally, there is an integrated dashcam mounted behind the windshield and a dimmable mirror. In terms of safety, the Toyota Safety Sense suite is not as rich as in other markets, but the facelifted Yaris still benefits from useful ADAS including the blind spot monitor and the rear cross-traffic alert.

The Thai-spec Toyota Yaris retains the naturally-aspirated 1.2-liter four-cylinder petrol engine of its predecessor, producing 91 hp and 109 Nm of torque. Like before, power is transmitted to the front axle exclusively through a CVT automatic gearbox. The updated Toyota Yaris is already available to order in Thailand starting from ฿ 559,000 (US$ 16,217). It is not clear if this facelift will be applied to other markets where the XP150 is currently offered including Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, China, and Latin America.
