AMG makes some pretty special cars but it also licenses its name for a number of different products. The latest example doesn’t come from Affalterbach’s engineers, but at least it comes with wheels. The Mercedes-AMG E-Scooter is an electric micro-mobility solution with up to 40 km of range. The scooter is actually built by the Swiss company Micro Mobility Systems AG, and from what we can tell, is nearly identical to the Micro Explorer S from their existing lineup. However, the AMG badge on the footrest and the handlebars, in combination with the Mercedes star emblem on the front, aims to make it more appealing to customers.
The technical specifications are carried
over from the Micro Explorer S. It rides on adjustable front / rear suspension,
a small display, and a telescopic handlebar. It also has front and rear lights
and more importantly, it folds, so it can fit in the boot of a small car or be
carried around, tipping the scales at 14.7 kg. The electric motor
produces 0.7 hp allowing a top speed of 20 km/h. The 9.6 Ah /
450 Wh battery is enough for 40 km of range in Eco mode, or 25 km in Sport mode while a full charge takes anywhere between 2.1 and 3.5
hours. AMG brags that the e-scooter accelerates using a twist grip instead of
the more common thumb throttle. The driver can slow down either by using the
electric motor brake at the front wheel and drum brake at the rear, or by the
more basic foot brake on the rear mudguard.
The user can also connect their smartphone
via Bluetooth using a dedicated application and a special holder giving them
access to navigation, driving data, and controls. Mercedes is serious about
safety when it comes to automobiles, but the nature of the e-scooter limits its
credentials on a “wide deck with anti-slip coating” and an “integrated bell”.
The company didn’t reveal pricing but we are sure that the Mercedes-AMG
branding makes it more expensive than the base model from Micro Mobility Systems
AG. Interestingly this is not the only scooter with AMG branding, joining the
already available Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team.
