The Ford Maverick has been a huge success and a conquest king, but big changes are in store for 2024. Following an initial report, The Drive received confirmation from the automaker that the 2024 Maverick will come standard with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder. While that sounds like good news, as the engine produces 250 hp and 375 Nm of torque, it comes at a cost. In particular, the price of the truck will reportedly climb to US$ 24,995 including destination. Depending on the specifics, it wouldn’t be too much of an increase as the 2023 Maverick XL EcoBoost starts at US$ 22,595 before factoring in the US$ 1,595 destination fee.

However, that’s only half of the story as the hybrid powertrain, which currently comes standard, is slated to become a US$ 1,500 option. That would raise the price of the hybrid to US$ 26,495 which is pretty significant when you consider the truck debuted in the summer of 2021 with a base price of US$ 19,995.

While the hybrid engine won’t be cheap, it’s a big part of what makes the Maverick so remarkable. As we noted during our original review, “Amazing. That’s about the only way you can describe the 2022 Ford Maverick as the pickup starts at US$ 19,995 and comes with a hybrid powertrain that allowed us to average 49 mpg in real-world testing.”

With numbers like that, it’s not surprising that a vast majority of consumers reportedly opted for hybrid power. This has reportedly resulted in shortages and the eventual decision to make the hybrid powertrain an optional extra. Ford Authority reports order banks will open for the 2024 Maverick in less than two weeks, so we’ll likely learn more shortly.
