The BMW M340d has always been a bit of a weird car as a mild M sedan with a diesel powertrain that is easily outperformed by the petrol-powered M340i. German tuning company Manhart now has the solution to make an M340d just as potent as its petrol sibling.
Dubbed the MH3 400D, Manhart’s creation
not only boosts the sedan’s performance but also adds some extra panache to its
design. Modifications start under the hood where the tuner has installed its
MHtronik powerbox to lift the car from its standard 340 hp and 700 Nm to a more considerable 380 hp and 770 Nm. To put those
figures into perspective, the M340i has 382 hp and 500 Nm.
Complementing the tweaked engine software is a new exhaust with four 90 mm
tailpipes and adjustable valves.
Then we get to the design. Making the car
stand out from any regular M340i are silver and red stripes running down the
sides of the car and over the hood and roof. Manhart has also installed a
carbon fiber lip spoiler from the M Performance range as well as a more
aggressive diffuser. The car also now sits on H&R springs that have lowered
the ride height by 40 mm on the front axle and 30 mm at the rear axle.
Of course, Manhart had to replace the
wheels, with theirs having a matte black finish and measuring 20×9 at the front
and 20×10.5 at the rear, while wrapped in 255/30 front and 275/30 rear tires.
Rounding out Manhart’s upgrades are new carbon fiber shells for the M sports
seats, carbon fiber shift paddle, and illuminated Manhart door sills.
