The debuts from Monterey Car Week are coming thick and fast and the latest vehicle to be unveiled is the new BAC Mono. While you could be excused for thinking the new Mono looks exactly the same as the one that’s been in production since, it has undergone extensive updates and improvements while retaining the same beloved, lightweight, and single-seat philosophy. Driving the new-age BAC Mono is a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine that revs to 8,000 rpm and pumps out 311 hp and 313 Nm. This means the new Mono has less power than the older Mono that rocks a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 332 hp and also means it has less than the 342 hp delivered by the naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter Mountune engine of the Mono R.
The small British firm says the 2024
model’s engine includes forged connecting rods and pistons, performance-focused
camshafts and uprated valve springs, an improved induction system with
individual throttle bodies, and a new carbon fiber airbox and aero-optimized
carbon fiber inlet. The four-cylinder is coupled to a six-speed sequential
transmission with configurable gear ratios that drives the rear wheels. All of
the Mono’s body panels are made from graphene-infused carbon fiber, resulting
in an overall weight of just 570 kg. This gives the car a
power-to-weight ratio of 546 hp-per-tonne and allows it to just 96
km/h in 2.7 seconds.
BAC has equipped the car with two-way
adjustable racing dampers at all four corners as well as an adjustable
pushrod-activated twin wishbone system. Owners will be able to purchase the new
Mono with specific Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires developed specifically for it.
Production of the new BAC Mono has already started and the first example will
be delivered after this weekend’s The Quail, A Motorsport Gathering.
