BMW is putting the finishing touches on the redesigned 1-Series, so it comes as little surprise the automaker is turning its attention to the new 2-Series Gran Coupe. Recently spied undergoing testing, the entry-level sedan embraces an evolutionary design that is instantly recognizable and slightly awkward. While the model is heavily disguised, we can see it will have a wide grille that is flanked by slimmer and slightly recessed headlights. The prototype also wears a relatively tame front bumper considering this is believed to be the M235i xDrive.
While the front end is all-new, everything aft of the A-pillar gives a strong sense of déjà vu as there’s familiar bodywork and an upward sweeping beltline. The greenhouse is also evolutionary, but the B-pillar appears to have been revamped to give the sedan a more dynamic appearance. We can also see two-tone wheels, which are backed up by a braking system with blue calipers. The rear end shows the car’s sporty side as there’s a four-tailpipe exhaust system and a lip on the integrated rear spoiler. They’re joined by slender taillights as well as a more conservative rear bumper.
Under the hood, we can expect an assortment of options including a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with around 241 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The M235i xDrive should have a more powerful four-cylinder pumping out approximately 312 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The redesigned 2-Series Gran Coupe is expected to be introduced late next year and arrive in the United States as a 2025 model.
