In an era of leaks and teasers, surprises are exceedingly rare. However, Acura has introduced the Electric Vision Design Study at Monterey Car Week. Following hot on the heels of the 2024 ZDX and ZDX Type S, the Electric Vision Concept was created by the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles and has us thinking about an electric NSX. The company didn’t say much about the concept, but billed it as an “electrifying design study with thrilling performance proportions” that “explores the future evolution of Precision Crafted Performance design language as the performance brand transitions to a zero-emissions future.”
While the automaker is playing coy on
specifics, we can see an aggressive supercar that looks like an evolution of
the NSX. That being said, the concept features a sleeker front end with neon
green lighting units and an illuminated Acura badge.
Bigger changes occur further back as the
Electric Vision concept trades sharp lines for flowing surfaces and gentle
curves. We can also see a canopy-like greenhouse, digital side mirrors, and a
design that seems painstakingly focused on aerodynamics. The latter can be seen
out back as the concept has a distinctive rear end with a massive diffuser.
Other highlights include a slender light bar and “ACURA” lettering instead of
the traditional “A” logo.
Acura’s executive creative director, Dave
Marek, said “This latest expression of an all-electric high-performance model
is inspiring everyone in our studio to push the boundaries and we wanted to
share the fun with our Acura fans.” It remains to be seen if this is anything
more than a flight of fancy, but Honda teased two electric sports cars last
year when they announced plans to launch 30 EVs globally by 2030. At the time,
the company said one was a “specialty”
vehicle while the other was a “flagship” model. The latter is believed to be
the next-generation Acura / Honda NSX, while the former is the rumored S2000
revival.
