The Alpine A110 R was introduced in October 2022 as a lighter and track-focused variant of the already light sportscar, but it seems that the French automaker is working on something even more special. Our spy photographers caught a prototype of the A110 testing at the Nurburgring with revised aero, making us excited about the future. The prototype wrapped in a red and black livery appears to be based on the A110 R but features a few interesting add-ons. The front bumper features a set of canards on each side, while the splitter got some kind of an extension. The carbon-fiber bonnet retains the dual intakes on its base but the openings above look different.

The prototype retains the side skirts, diffuser, rear bumper extensions, and carbon-fiber engine cover from the A110 R, but there is a new manually-adjustable wing at the back combined with an additional lip spoiler above the taillights. The shiny wheels are also different, featuring a double-spoke design that exposes the seemingly larger brakes with red-painted calipers.


 While we don’t know if Alpine made any changes on this particular prototype, all variants of the A110 – including the R – come fitted with a mid-mounted turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine producing 297 hp and 340 Nm of torque. The R is the lightest of them all tipping the scales at 1,082 kg while featuring a carbon-fiber kit, a revised suspension setup, stronger brakes, and semi-slick tires.

Alpine has already presented two special versions of the A110 R, namely the Fernando Alonso which was limited to 32 units, and the Le Mans which will be produced in 100 units celebrating the 100th anniversary of the fabled race. Could the camouflaged prototype be another limited-production special based on the A110 R, or an even hotter variant justifying the use of the RS moniker? While at the moment we can only speculate, the latter could serve as a swan song for the series before Alpine goes EV-only in 2026.
